Reception
Welcome to Carle Class, named after Eric Carle, author of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.'
We are Ropsley Primary School's Reception Class.
This year our class is taught by Mrs Spencer and Mrs Hickey. Mrs Handley is the class' fantastic Teaching Assistant!
Other adults in our classroom are Miss Bailey, who teaches us on a Tuesday afternoon for wood school and PE. Miss Pepper is another Teaching Assistant who will help in the class on a Friday afternoon.
Our Autumn Topic is 'All about me'.
We will be looking at our families and at the different places of importance in Ropsley.
In our Talk 4 Writing sessions, we will be retelling, innovating and creating our own versions of The Little Red Hen and The Three little Pigs. We will also have lots of opportunities to practise sequencing and retelling the stories within the classroom provision. Another story that we will focus on initially is Golidlocks and the three bears. Later in the term, we will look at information texts and videos about the festival of Divali.
Here is an example story map that we use to retell our stories:
Reception will begin their Read, write, Inc. (RWI) phonics journey, learning how to read and write the letters of the alphabet. More information can be found on our school's phonics webpage.
Our Core Texts for end of day reading for this half term will be:
Six dinner Sid by Inga Moore
I'm absolutely too small for school by Lauren Child
Colour Monster by Anna Llenas
Two homes by Claire Masurel
Our RWI poem will be 'Bedtime March-past'. We will also be enjoying a daily rhyme time session, practising rhymes such as 'Dingle, dangle scarecrow', '5 little speckled frogs' and 'Tommy Thumb'.
In Maths, we will be looking at reading, writing and making numbers to 10. We will look at different representations of numbers to 10. Children will also learn about 2D shapes and measuring during cookery sessions.
In our Understanding the World sessions, we will be looking at our families and at the different places of importance in Ropsley. We will also look at how Divali is celebrated around the world. Children will take part in wood school sessions where they will investigate the different seasons with Miss Bailey.
EAD sessions will focus on exploring different types of media such as painting, printing, junk modelling, large scale construction, collage and clay work. Examples of activities that the children will undertake are: collaging the three little pigs houses, making a clay diva lamp and painting a picture of their own home.
We will be taking part in physical activities on a Wednesday afternoon so please can children come in their PE kit on these days.
Jigsaw (PSHE) will be entitled 'Being me in the world', with a focus on feelings, being kind and our rights and responsibilities.

In Reception, we use both Tapestry and Class Dojo to communicate with parents. Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.
We also encourage you to use Tapestry to upload your own observations of your child. This can be anything from WOW moments, days out, special memories or even just something that your child wishes to show us.
Here is a link to a video explaining how to upload an observation:
